Rare first edition print (first edition in English). This rare fantasy prose poem book is by Sakutaro Hagiwara (1886 - 1942), considered one of the most important Japanese poets of the 20th century. "Cat Town" is a magical story about a man who travels to a "possessed village" and enters into an illusory universe. The woodblock prints are created by the famous illustrator and printer Sumio Kawakami (also known as Chosei Kawakami).
With five woodblock-printed illustrations. Original decorated paper-covered boards.This translation by George Saito was published some 13 years after the original edition in Japanese, but appears to be identical in format, including the original blocks.
