Book condition:  

Volume I (Research, documents, materials) is in Very Good condition.    

 

Volume II  (Album of Photographs) is in Good to Near Fine (Very Good). Pages are clean and unmarked.  Appears to be unread, but several pages at the first section of the book, at the bottom corner  are noticeably dented (PLEASE SEE IMAGE), thus graded overall "Good to Very Good (Near Fine)" condition.

Volume 1 - Research, documents, materials (Brown cover):   Very Good.   Corner bump on front cover at the lower corner (PLEASE SEE IMAGE). 
 
Volume 2 - Album of Photographs (Green cover):  Good to Very Good.   Corner bump / dent on front cover at the lower corner (PLEASE SEE IMAGE).  

 

Slipcase condition:  (Paper slipcase)  Fair to Good.  Slipcase has damage, including dent and tears (PLEASE SEE IMAGE FOR DETAILS).

"The ball in Russian costumes of the 17th century, which took place on February 11 and 13, 1903, became the brightest event not only in the life of the Supreme Court, but also in the entire Russian society. The splendor of the holiday and the splendor of masquerade dresses were amazed by foreign diplomats invited as guests. The costumes themselves and the album released in 1904 with photographs of the participants of the ball were repeatedly presented at international exhibitions. Volume I brought together all documentary and research material, including preserved costumes, unique photographs and archival documents, most of which are published for the first time. 128 pages, 50 black and white illustrations, 20 tables with color images. The volume is preceded by an introductory article by the Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky."

Volume II - a newly created album of the participants of the ball. 464 full color pages, 198 photos of participants. The cover is made using green silk, deep gold stamping. More than half of the prints are made from genuine photographs. Each image is accompanied by a biographical article. In many cases, the information given there is unique. `Costume ball in the Winter Palace` - an extremely valuable publication on the history of Russian costume, court life and the genealogy of the Russian nobility, which included German, Estonian, Georgian, Polish and many other names. This two-volume book is included in the Gift Fund of the President of Russia. It is presented to heads of foreign states, diplomats, public figures. 464 full color pages, 198 photos of participants. The cover is made using green silk, deep gold stamping. More than half of the prints are made from genuine photographs.
